For Hire Highly ambitious, entry-level man-child eagerly seeks any occupation offering spectacular amounts of cash and power. Job requirements and responsibilities are irrelevant. Applicant is morally suspect, possesses low self-esteem, is borderline delusional and intellectually mediocre. However, applicant is also willing to engage in lying, theft, grift, sabotage, and other miscellaneous chicanery to further his career. For examples of applicant’s tireless diligence and ruthless scheming, please review this rollicking satire of office life and career advancement for a lengthy list of sensational and ill-gained accomplishments.

This highly ambitious book is a hysterical examination of modern corporate greed and morality. Just like the author's other new releases, this novel also has a head-spinning experimental design that throws everything at the reader with lively and inventive formatting - side notes, pictures, different fonts, words shaped into other words, soundtrack descriptors... Everything including the kitchen sink is thrown at the reader in a wild rejection of traditional linear prose, offering instead a delightful display of text at its most creative and free. The fanciful asides serve as constantly fun breaks from the main narrative. While the main plot is a pretty straightforward story of one worker bee's rise to power, the story is fleshed out with all sorts of observations and anecdotes about working in an office. The entire ecosystem of work life gets beautifully scrutinized - from big, existential ideas like hating your job, living with coworkers and bosses, or the nature of wealth - and down through the minutiae of how to share the office refrigerator and optimizing communal-bathroom strategy. But from the mundane up through the metaphysical, the book's romp of a caper is a fantastic frame for the author to dispense countless jokes, pointers and lessons into what it's like to be both the suffering peon and ruthless ruler. The hero is a real scumbag who lies, swindles and cheats his way valiantly into the a-hole hall of fame. While some of his antics and capers may grow redundant at points, the consistent comedy is always entertaining.
Despite "work" being how the human race devotes most of its existence, this confounding condition is rarely explored with such intelligent discourse, feverish glee and wicked humor. It'll probably make you wanna quit your crummy job.
